EOP Speech: I am a Quitter and that is Okay.

Do you want to quit?

I was able to work for Microsoft, Amazon Kindle, T-Mobile, Clearwire, and FMTrader. Then I tried to partner up to work in a startup company and even work here at Clark Institute of the Philippines.  All of this jobs… I quit, not because of management or politics but because I am not happy.

Steve Job once said that “I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

It is believed that being a quitter is bad, but it turns out that it is okay to be quitter. Some reasons might be different but it all boils down to this.

  1. Quit something if you are no longer happy – Life is not a comforting mother, she will hustle and beat you to death. Enjoy your life .I worked for Microsoft Zune and I hated every single day of my life so I decided to quit and try to find my happiness. If I didn’t quit this job I will never I find the love of my life. Now we are together for five years with our legendary.
  1. Quitting is not same as lazy – People keep saying to work hard and harder to be successful. No, this is not true. When you know you work hard and they feel you need to give more, then quit. They are just abusing and using you. I have worked for 7 days a week and still demand more so I decided to quit and now this company employs 5 people for my job.
  1. Quitting is Learning – Yes, even in quitting you can learn things. I started to work in CIP around 2013 and I decided to quit at this company in 2015 because I was looking for a better salary (going back to Microsoft ) So I decided to leave and then I have learned that teaching is something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Now I am talking in front of you to tell this. It is okay to quit, quit if you are no longer happy, quit and NEVER think you are lazy. Quit so you can learn. See you on Monday.
